Botafogo strolled past Internacional with a 3-2 win on Monday at Estadio Beira-Rio. Both sides arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Internacional had been hopeful of continuing their run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Goiás EC away (2-1), the other to Flamengo at home (3-1). Botafogo were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against São Paulo in their last match. As it stands, Internacional are currently 5th with 21 points from 13 matches, while Botafogo sit in 15th, with 15 points from 13.

Internacional started the first half well, when Edenilson found the net at the 9 minute mark. The momentum was now with Internacional, who then scored again through a goal from Fabricio Bustos, at 14 minutes to establish a 2-0. However, Botafogo hit back though, at 19 minutes, with a goal from Vinicius Lopes, ending the first half 2-1.

Botafogo continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Erison Danilo de Souza in the 59th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Hugo made it 3-2 just before the final whistle to make it 3-2.

Substitutions for Internacional included Alemao, Taison, Pedro Henrique, Mauricio and Cadorini for Wanderson, Alan Patrick, David, Moises and Fabricio Bustos, repectively. Botafogo brought on Daniel Borges, Matheus Nascimento and Rikelmi Valentim dos Santos, to replace Vinicius Lopes, Erison Danilo de Souza and Renzo Saravia.

Internacional and Botafogo played a tough game where the referee sanctioned Internacional with yellow cards to Kaique Rocha, Moises, Mauricio, Gabriel Mercado and Carlos De Pena and with red card to Gabriel Mercado, while from Botafogo Joel Carli, Kayque, Klaus, Roberto Fernandez, Patrick De Paula and Lucas Piazon were booked and red to Philipe Sampaio.
