Goiás 2 – Fluminense 3: Visitors continue with red-hot form by landing narrow win

Fluminense’s 3-2 win over Goiás EC on Thursday, was hard fought at Estádio da Serrinha. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Goiás wanted to continue adding points after a scoreless draw against Juventude in their previous match. Fluminense secured a point against São Paulo in their previous match. After today’s result, Goiás are in 14th place, with 21 points from 18 matches, while Fluminense sit in 2nd, with 31 points from 18.

Fluminense started the first half well, when Jhon Arias gave Fluminense the lead in the 28th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Pedro Raul equalised for Goiás just before halftime, concluding the first half 1-1.

Goiás took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Nicolas at the 80 minute mark. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from German Cano at the 84 minute mark brought Fluminense level. Fluminense then netted again and found the back of the net thanks to a goal from Willian just before the final whistle with a final score of 3-2.

Substitutions for Goiás included Nicolas, Yan, Renato Junior, Hugo and Henrique Lordelo for Vinicius, Reynaldo, Pedro Raul, Savio and Matheus Sales, repectively. Fluminense brought on Nathan, Felipe Melo, Matheus Martinelli, Marrony and Willian for Matheus Martins, Manoel, Nonato, Jhon Arias and Ganso.

The referee booked Renato Junior for Goiás.

Goiás will next travel to São Paulo, while Fluminense will face Red Bull Bragantino at home.
