Goiás 2-1 Goianense: Big Green topple The Dragon at Estádio da Serrinha

Goiás EC beat Atlético Goianense with a thumping 2-1 victory on Saturday at Estádio da Serrinha. Goiás were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Atl. Mineiro. Goianense secured a point against Cuiaba in their previous match. After today’s result, Goiás are in 11th place in the table and have 29 points while Goianense sit in 19th with 22 points after 24 matches.

Goiás started strongly in the first half, when Klaus found the net, 11 minutes in, ending the first half 1-0.

Goiás fought back, when Marquinhos Gabriel found the net in the 54th minute. In the end though, Goianense at the 84 minute mark hit back though via a Shaylon goal. The match ended with a 2-1 home victory.

Substitutions for Goiás included Caio, Apodi, Danilo Barcelos and Luan Dias da Silva for Maguinho, Diego, Marquinhos Gabriel and Savio, repectively. Goianense brought on Edson, Peglow, Kelvin, Shaylon and Dudu for Gabriel Baralha, Airton, Jorginho, Kelvin and Edson.

The referee booked from Goiás Marquinhos Gabriel and Auremir and from Goianense Wanderson and Hayner. Both teams also had a sending off, with Caio for Goiás and Hayner for Goianense.

Goiás will next travel to Santos FC, while Goianense will face Atl. Mineiro at home.
