Goiás 2-1 Paranaense: Athletico lose momentum in surprise road defeat

Goiás EC’s 2-1 win over Athletico Paranaense on Sunday, was hard fought at Estádio da Serrinha. Goiás were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last match 1-0 to America Mineiro. Paranaense were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Palmeiras and Red Bull Bragantino. As it stands, Goiás are in 11th place in the table and have 20 points while Paranaense sit in 3rd with 27 points after 16 matches.

Goiás started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early goal from Pedro Raul in the 5th minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Nicolas at the 39 minute mark, ending the first half 2-0.

Paranaense took the lead in the second half, with a goal from David Terans at the 62 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Goiás included Vinicius, Dada Belmonte and Maguinho for Pedro Raul, Fellipe Ramos Ignez Bastos and Diego, repectively. Paranaense brought on Hugo Moura, Romulo, Marcelo Cirino, David Terans and Matheus Babi, to replace Matheus Fernandes, Tomas Cuello, Vitor Roque, Agustin Canobbio and Erick.

There were bookings for Danilo Barcelos and Fellipe Ramos Ignez Bastos from Goiás. For Paranaense, Matheus Felipe saw yellow.

Goiás will play their next fixture away against Juventude, while Paranaense will face Internacional at home.
