Fortaleza 3-1 Coritiba: Fortaleza continue strong run of unbeaten form

On Friday, Coritiba suffered an away defeat to Fortaleza EC at Estadio Castelao. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Fortaleza were on the hunt for more points after a scoreless draw against Atl. Mineiro in their previous match. Coritiba, meanwhile, had secured a point against Internacional in their previous match. Fortaleza are currently 8th with 48 points from 34 matches, while Coritiba sit in 15th, with 35 points from 34.

Fortaleza opened the score, with an early goal from Juninho Capixaba in the 2nd minute, finishing the first half 1-0.

Fortaleza started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, when Juninho Capixaba found the net once more, at 55 minutes. However, Coritiba refused to lie down and managed to pull back a goal from Cadorini in the 60th minute. Fortaleza in turn, then responded, 73 minutes in, grabbing the lead with an effort from Romarinho. When the final whistle blew, the result was 3-1 to Fortaleza.

Substitutions for Fortaleza included Jose Welison, Hercules Pereira Do Nascimento, Romarinho and Silvio Romero for Lucas Sasha, Lucas Lima, Moises Vieira da Veiga and Thiago Galhardo, respectively. Coritiba brought on Warley, Cadorini, Regis, Natanael and Juan Diaz, to replace Matias Galarza, Leo Gamalho, Gabriel Boschilia, Nathan and Jesus Trindade.

The referee booked Lucas Lima from Fortaleza. Coritiba had the worst of it though, with Gabriel Boschilia seeing yellow, and Guillermo De los Santos then sent off with a red.

Next up, Fortaleza are away to Palmeiras, whilst Coritiba will travel to face Juventude.
