Fluminense 1-0 Cuiaba: Fluminese keep up the pressure on the top two with narrow victory

Fluminense eased past Cuiaba in a 1-0 victory on Sunday at Maracana. Fluminense were looking for a victory following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Santos FC in their previous game. Cuiaba were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Fortaleza EC. As it stands, Fluminense and Cuiaba currently occupy 3rd and 17th spots in the table, with 38 points and 20 points respectively after 21 matches.

Fluminense opened the score, with an early goal from German Cano in the 2nd minute, saw out the first half 1-0. The second part ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Substitutions for Fluminense included Nathan, Cristiano, Matheus Martinelli, Marrony and Willian for Ganso, Mario Pineida, Felipe Melo, Jhon Arias and German Cano, repectively. Cuiaba brought on Andre Luis, Camilo, Alesson, Marcao Silva and Denilson Alves Borges, to replace Rodriguinho, Pepe, Valdivia, Alan Empereur and Rafael Gava.

There were bookings for Felipe Melo and Nathan from Fluminense. For Cuiaba, Rafael Gava saw yellow.

Fluminense will play their next fixture away against Internacional, while Cuiaba will face Juventude at home.
