Fluminense 2-0 Avaí: Hosts Fluminese cruise past Avai at the Maracana

Avaí fell to an away defeat at the hands of Fluminense at Maracana on Monday. Fluminense arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a scoreless draw against America Mineiro in their previous match. Avaí were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Fortaleza EC and Botafogo. After today’s result, Fluminense are in 6th place, with 18 points from 13 matches, while Avaí sit in 11th, with 17 points from 13.

Fluminense started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from German Cano in the 5th minute to take them into the break 1-0 up.

Fluminense continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Matheus Martins found the net, 72 minutes in, sealing a 2-0 victory for the away side.

Substitutions for Fluminense included Matheus Martins, Matheus Martinelli, Willian, Wellington and Mario Pineida for German Cano, Ganso, Jhon Arias, Nonato and Luiz Henrique, repectively. Avaí brought on Renato, Jean Cleber, Romulo dos Santos, Morato and Vinicius Leite Silva, to replace Muriqui, Eduardo Biasi, Renato, Raniele and Bissoli.

The referee booked Bruno Silva, Raniele and Arthur Chaves for Avaí.

Fluminense will next travel to Botafogo, while Avaí will face Palmeiras at home.
