Fluminense 5 – Mineiro 3: Home fans rewarded with victory at Maracana

Fluminense beat Atl. Mineiro with a thumping 5-3 victory on Thursday at Maracana. Fluminense were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Atlético Goianense. Mineiro are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As the table looks today, Fluminense are in 11th place, with 14 points from 10 matches, while Mineiro sit in 5th, with 17 points from 10.

It was an impressive opening from Fluminense, when Jhon Arias gave Fluminense the lead in the 18th minute. The momentum was now with Fluminense, who then scored again through a goal from German Cano, 29 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, Mineiro weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Hulk at the 35 minute mark. However, Fluminense increased their advantage 3-1 thanks to a goal from Samuel Xavier at the 37 minute mark. However, Mineiro hit back though just before halftime, with a goal from Jair, to take a 3-2 lead into half time.

Mineiro fought back, thanks to a goal from Eduardo Sasha after 53 minutes. However, each side looked hungry to win and Fluminense then found the back of the net at the 58 minute mark thanks to German Cano, taking the score to 4-3. However they weren’t finished yet and Luiz Henrique made it 5-3 at the 63 minute mark to make it 5-3.

Substitutions for Fluminense included Felipe Melo, Yago Felipe, Luccas Claro, Willian and Caio Paulista for Wellington, Ganso, Luiz Henrique, German Cano and Jhon Arias, repectively. Mineiro replaced Savio, Keno, Fabio, Otavio and Rever with Ademir, Eduardo Sasha, Ignacio Fernandez, Jair and Nathan.

There were bookings for Andre, Ganso and Fabio Lopes from Fluminense. For Mineiro, Nathan, Rubens and Allan saw yellow.
