Cuiaba 1-1 Palmeiras: Cuiaba unable to hold on to early advantage

Cuiaba were helde ach other to a 1-1 draw by Palmeiras on Sunday at Arena Pantanal. Both sides arrived on the back of wins. Cuiaba were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Botafogo away (2-0), the other to Avai at home (1-0). Palmeiras were coming from consecutive wins against Fortaleza EC and Athletico Paranaense. Cuiaba and Palmeiras currently occupy 16th and 1st spots in the table, with 38 points and 78 points respectively after 36 matches.

The first half of the match started favourably for Cuiaba, when Jonathan Cafu found the net after only 6 minutes, finishing the first half 1-0.

Palmeiras took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Jose Manuel Lopez, 75 minutes in, to level the score at 1-1.

Substitutions for Cuiaba included Camilo, Felipe Marques and Joao Lucas for Pepe, Andre Luis and Rafael Gava, respectively. Palmeiras replaced Danilo, Dudu, Vanderlan, Bruno Tabata and Rony for Gabriel Menino, Rafael Navarro, Jorge, Miguel Merentiel and Breno.

The referee booked Marllon and Andre Luis for Cuiaba.

Cuiaba will next play Atl. Mineiro away, with Palmeiras facing America Mineiro at home.
