Cuiaba 1-0 Avai: Cuiaba earn vital win in fight for survival

Cuiaba banked all three points against the Avai in a narrow 1-0 victory on Friday, at Arena Pantanal. Both Cuiaba and Avai arrived at the match with previous defeats in the league. Cuiaba were looking to get back to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Goiás EC in their previous fixture. Avai lost 3-0 in their against Palmeiras. Cuiaba and Avai sit 16th, (34 points) and 19th, (28 points), spots respectively, after 34 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Cuiaba applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Pepe just before the full time, seing the match finish 1-0.

Substitutions for Cuiaba included Jonathan Cafu, Rodriguinho, Gabriel Cordeiro Pirani, Vinicius Boff and Gustavo Nescau for Joao Lucas, Lucas Cardoso, Felipe Marques, Marllon and Andre Luis, respectively. Avai brought on Pablo Dyego, Romulo dos Santos, Jean Cleber, Raphael Rodrigues Borges and Marcinho, to replace Muriqui, Bissoli, Eduardo Biasi, Rafael Vaz and Kevin.

The referee booked one player from Avai, Bruno Silva.

Cuiaba will next travel to Botafogo, while Avai will face Red Bull Bragantino at home.
