Corinthians 0-2 Fluminense: Fluminense up to fourth after strong road win

Corinthians on Thursday lost to Fluminense on a home defeat at Neo Quimica Arena. Corinthians were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Santos FC away (1-0), the other to Athletico Paranaense at home (2-1). Fluminense, meanwhile, were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Corinthians are now in 5th place, with 57 points from 34 matches, while Fluminense sit in 4th, with 58 points from 34.

Fluminense dominated the first half, when German Cano gave them the lead, 12 minutes in to take them into the break 1-0 up.

Fluminense continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when German Cano found the net once more, 70 minutes in, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Corinthians included Ramiro, Giuliano, Bruno Mendez, Giovane Santana do Nascimento and Roni for Gustavo Da Silva, Renato Augusto, Fabian Balbuena, Fagner and Ramiro, respectively. Fluminense replaced Matheus Martins, Cristiano, Nathan and Felipe Melo with Ganso, Calegari, German Cano and Matheus Martinelli.

There were bookings for Ramiro, Fagner and Cassio from Corinthians, and Samuel Xavier, German Cano and Felipe Melo, for Fluminense.

Fluminense and Corinthians will next play away to Ceará and Flamengo respectively.
