Corinthians 3-1 Coritiba: Visitors fail to stem the tide against Corinthians

Coritiba fell to an away defeat at the hands of Corinthians at Neo Quimica Arena on Thursday. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Corinthians arrived at the match looking pick up points after losing their last match 3-1 to Ceará. Coritiba had lost their previous match against Flamengo. As the table looks today, Corinthians are currently 2nd with 32 points from 18 matches, while Coritiba sit in 16th, with 19 points from 18.

Corinthians started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Roger Guedes gave Corinthians the lead, 36 minutes in, concluding the first half 1-0.

Coritiba started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with a goal from Luciano Castan at the 54 minute mark. However, each side looked hungry to win and Corinthians then found the back of the net, 67 minutes in thanks to Adson, taking the score to 2-1. Corinthians then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Raul Gustavo just before the final whistle to make it 3-1.

Substitutions for Corinthians included Fagner, Gustavo Da Silva, Giuliano, Adson and Du Queiroz for Rafael Ramos, Roger Guedes, Willian, Roni and Maycon, repectively. Coritiba replaced Adrian Martinez, Joao Vitor, Bernardo Marcos Lemes, Nathan and Thonny Anderson with Regis, Alef Manga, Willian Farias, Natanael and Val.

There were bookings for Rafael Ramos from Corinthians. For Coritiba, Val, Willian Farias and Adrian Martinez saw yellow.

Corinthians will next play Atl. Mineiro away, with Coritiba facing Cuiaba at home.
