Botafogo 0-1 Fluminense: Visitors strike late to claim maximum points

Botafogo fell to a home defeat at the hands of Fluminense at Nilton Santos on Sunday. Both Botafogo and Fluminense arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Botafogo were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Internacional away (3-2), the other to São Paulo at home (1-0). Fluminense were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-0 victory against Avai. As the table looks today, both teams are on 18 points and occupy 9th and 8th places respectively after 14 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Fluminense continued to pile on the pressure in the second, when Manoel gave Fluminense the lead, 82 minutes in. The final result, Botafogo 0, Fluminense 1.

Substitutions for Botafogo included Erison Danilo de Souza, Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos, Luis Felipe Oyama and Daniel for Matheus Nascimento, Chay Oliveira, Romildo and Kanu, repectively. Fluminense brought on John Kennedy, Matheus Martins and Felipe Melo for German Cano, Ganso and Jhon Arias.

There were bookings for Chay Oliveira, Joel Carli and Renzo Saravia from Botafogo, and Nonato and John Kennedy, for Fluminense.

Botafogo will next play Red Bull Bragantino away, with Fluminense facing Corinthians at home.
