Avai 2-2 Palmeiras: Honours even in entertaining high-scoring draw

Avai were held to 2-2 draw by Palmeiras down on Sunday at Estadio da Ressacada. Avai were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to Fluminense. Palmeiras were coming from consecutive wins against São Paulo and Atlético Goianense. As it stands, Avai are in 12th place, with 17 points from 14 matches, while Palmeiras sit in 1st, with 28 points from 14.

The first half of the match started well for Avai, when Bissoli found the net just before halftime

Palmeiras started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early penalty goal from Gustavo Scarpa in the 48th minute. Palmeiras looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Rony in the 65th minute to establish a 2-1. In the end though, their lead was short lived, as Jean Pyerre equalised for Avai in the 73rd minute and saw the match end 2-2.

Substitutions for Avai included Jean Pyerre, Morato, Lucas Ventura and Jean Cleber for Eduardo Biasi, Muriqui, Raniele and Bissoli, repectively. Palmeiras brought on Raphael Veiga, Rony, Dudu, Eduard Atuesta and Gabriel Veron, to replace Gustavo Scarpa, Breno, Wesley, Gabriel Menino and Rafael Navarro.

There were bookings for William Pottker, Bruno Cortez, Bressan and Arthur Chaves from Avai. For Palmeiras, Luan Garcia saw yellow.

Avai next face Cuiaba and Palmeiras are at home to Athletico Paranaense.
