Avai defeated Ceará 2-0 on Thursday at Estadio da Ressacada. Avai arrived with the intention of improving their league position following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Santos FC in their previous game. Ceará were beaten 1-0 in their previous match against Corinthians. Avai are now in 19th place on the table and have 32 points while Ceará sit in 18th with 34 points after 37 matches.

After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Avai who started the second half strongly, with an early goal from Natanael in the 49th minute. Avai then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Sarara just before the full time to make it 2-0.

Substitutions for Avai included Jean Cleber, Lucas Silva, Sarara, Luis Eduardo Gaspar Coelho and Muriqui for Bruno Silva, Marcinho, Eduardo Biasi, Pablo Dyego and Vitinho, respectively. Ceará brought on Buiu, Cleber Bomfim and Erick, to replace Nino Paraiba, Richard and Richardson.

There were bookings for Pablo Dyego, Vitinho, Marcinho and Sarara from Avai. For Ceará, Luiz Otavio, Richard, Richardson, David Ricardo and Erick saw yellow.

Avai will next play Flamengo away, with Ceará facing Juventude at home.
