Avai 1-2 Botafogo: Struggling Avai sunk once again

Botafogo defeated Avai 2-1 on Friday at Estadio da Ressacada. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Avai were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last match 2-1 to Atlético Goianense. Botafogo had lost their previous match against Palmeiras. Avai are currently 19th with 28 points from 30 matches, while Botafogo sit in 9th, with 40 points from 30.

Avai dominated the first half, when Bissoli gave them the lead, 11 minutes in to see out the first half 1-0.

Botafogo staged a comeback in the second half, with an early goal from Victor Cuesta in the 49th minute. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Soares on the 56 minute mark to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Avai included Romulo dos Santos, Jean Pyerre, Rodrigo, Lucas Ventura and Jean Cleber for Muriqui, Sarara, Bressan, Bruno Silva and Rafael Vaz, respectively. Botafogo brought on Jacob Montes, Joao Victor, Matheus Nascimento, Philipe Sampaio and Danilo, to replace Gabriel Appelt, Junior Santos, Soares, Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos and Tche Tche.

There were bookings for Bruno Silva and William Pottker from Avai, and Victor Cuesta, Rafael, Fernando Marcal and Jefferson Ruan Pereira dos Santos, for Botafogo.

Botafogo and Avai will next play away to São Paulo and Fortaleza EC respectively.
