Avaí on away loss to Goianense at Estadio Antonio Accioly on Thursday. Both Goianense and Avaí arrived on the back of wins. Goianense were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Fluminense away (2-0), the other to Avaí at home (2-1) while Avaí had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Botafogo. Following today’s result, Goianense and Avaí currently occupy 15th and 12th spots in the league, with 13 points and 14 points respectively after 10 matches.

Goianense started the match well, thanks to a goal from Gabriel Baralha at the 34 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Bissoli equalised for Avaí just before halftime, which brought Eduardo Barroca’s squad level at 1-1 at the half time break

Goianense rallied after this and were rewarded, when Wellington Rato found the net just before the final whistle, which sealed the victory for Goianense.

Substitutions for Goianense included Gabriel Baralha, Leo Pereira, Wellington Rato, Shaylon and Arthur Henry for Edson, Airton, Diego Churín, Luiz Fernando and Jefferson, repectively. Avaí brought on Morato, Romulo dos Santos, Dentinho and Lucas Ventura for Bissoli, Muriqui, William Pottker and Jean Cleber.

The referee booked Gabriel Baralha from Goianense. Avaí had the worst of it though, with Kevin, Diego Matos, Eduardo Biasi and Gledson seeing yellow, and Diego Matos (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Goianense will next travel to Palmeiras, while Avaí will face Fortaleza EC at home.
