On Monday, Santos FC suffer an away defeat to America Mineiro at Independencia. Both America and Santos arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. America were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Juventude away (1-0), the other to Avai at home (3-1). Santos had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 2-1 victory against Coritiba. As the table looks today, both teams are on 30 points and occupy 8th and 10th places respectively after 22 matches.

The first half of the match started favourably for America, when Pedrinho found the net, at 14 minutes, finishing the first half 1-0. The second 45 minutes was uneventful with no goals and little action at either end.

Substitutions for America included Alexandre Egea, Matheusinho, Wellington Paulista, Felipe Azevedo and Patric for Martin Benitez, Everaldo, Henrique Almeida, Pedrinho and Raul Caceres, repectively. Santos brought on Sandry, Angelo, Luan, Brayan Angulo and Guilherme Camacho, to replace Carlos Sanchez, Lucas Henrique Barbosa, Vinicius Zanocelo, Marcos Leonardo and Rodrigo Fernandez.

The referee booked Luan Patrick for America.

America will next travel to Athletico Paranaense, while Santos will face São Paulo at home.
