America Mineiro fell to a home defeat at the hands of Flamengo at Independencia on Sunday. America arrived at the match looking to pick up more points, following defeat to Fortaleza EC. Flamengo were coming from consecutive wins against Atl. Mineiro and Cuiaba. America are now in 8th place, with 45 points from 33 matches, while Flamengo sit in 3rd, with 58 points from 33.

Flamengo started well, when Matheus Franca found the net, 11 minutes in. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Everaldo in the 13th minute brought America level. However, Flamengo reestablished their lead via a Everton goal in the 24th minute, which saw the first half end 2-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for America included Gonzalo Mastriani, Martin Benitez, Matheusinho, Aloisio and Henrique Almeida for Wellington Paulista, Alexandre Egea, Felipe Azevedo, Everaldo and Lucas Kal, respectively. Flamengo brought on Mateusao, Matheus Goncalves Martins and Igor, to replace Everton, Matheus Franca and Marinho.

There were bookings for Aloisio from America. For Flamengo, Fabricio Bruno saw yellow.

America will next travel to Goiás EC, while Flamengo will face Santos FC at home.
