America 1-0 Corinthians: Mineiro edge Timão in top-ten clash

On Monday, Corinthians suffered an away defeat to America Mineiro at Independencia. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. America arrived with the intention of improving their league position following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Botafogo in their previous game. Corinthians, meanwhile, had secured a point against São Paulo in their previous match. America and Corinthians currently occupy 8th and 5th spots in the table, with 39 points and 44 points respectively after 27 matches.

After a goalless first half, America applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Juninho in the 77th minute so at full time it was 1-0 to America.

Substitutions for America included Gonzalo Mastriani, Indio Ramirez, Patric, Aloisio and Iago Maidana for Henrique Almeida, Martin Benitez, Raul Caceres, Felipe Azevedo and Matheusinho, respectively. Corinthians brought on Du Queiroz, Yuri Alberto, Robson Bambu, Renato Augusto and Fausto Vera for Xavier, Roger Guedes, Leo Mana, Adson and Roni.

There were bookings for Martin Benitez from America. For Corinthians, Raul Gustavo, Bruno Mendez and Roni saw yellow.

America will play away against Cuiaba, while Corinthians will face Atlético Goianense at home.
