Belgian winger Thorgan Hazard was initially in the spotlight because of the success of his brother, Eden.

Thorgan, a Belgian international, has built a stellar career of his own, representing Borussia Monchengladbach and Dortmund and appearing in multiple major tournaments for his country.

Playing in the yellow and black of Dortmund since 2019, Hazard won the DFB-Pokal in 2020-21, and has played alongside some big-name teammates, including Mats Hummels, Erling Haaland and Marco Reus.

Turning 29 in March 2022, Hazard has several seasons left at the top of European football. While others have come and gone from the Westfalenstadion, Thorgan Hazard transfer rumours are infrequent, and he seems settled at the club.

Named Belgian Footballer of the Year back in 2013, Hazard is nearing 400 appearances in club football, and could reach 50 international caps by the end of 2022.

He isn’t always in the headlines despite a recognisable name and playing for one of Germany’s biggest clubs. So, let’s learn a bit more about Thorgan Hazard.

How Much Does Thorgan Hazard Earn?

Thorgan Hazard earns roughly £80,000 per week on a contract which expires at the end of the 2023-24 Bundesliga season.

His move to Dortmund brought a considerable pay rise, with his weekly income leaping from the £25,000 mark to somewhere in the region of £80,000.

Hazard’s salary ranks around average among Dortmund first-teamers. Manuel Akanji, Jude Bellingham and Donyell Malen all earn less per week, while there are 10 players on more than Thorgan Hazard.

Marco Reus, Mats Hummels and Thomas Meunier are the club’s top earners, receiving £164,000 per week.

The former Chelsea player earns less than many of his Premier League counterparts – 111 players in England’s top flight are on £80,000 or more per week.

He might not be the highest-paid player at his club, let alone in Germany, but we can safely assume Thorgan Hazard has plenty of cash kicking about.

Estimations of his net worth naturally vary, though they all make him a multimillionaire. Still, Eden can probably cover the bill when they head out for a family meal.

Career

Initially with Royal Stade Brainois as a five-year old, Thorgan Hazard followed his older brother Eden to Tubize after five years.

While playing at the club, scouts from Ligue 1 club Lens spotted Thorgan. His parents opted for the move to France, believing the facilities would be better.

Hazard was a member of a gifted Lens youth setup, playing alongside talents including Geoffrey Kondogbia and Raphael Varane. The club enjoyed success with the trio, and it was no surprise when Hazard penned his first professional contract in 2010.

His first season was mainly with the reserves, however, and he had to wait until the end of 2010-11 for his first game with the senior squad. He didn’t get on the pitch, however, and had to wait until 2011-12 for his debut.

Eden joined Chelsea in the summer of 2012. Thorgan also made the move to west London, but soon became a member of Chelsea’s infamous loan army. He joined Zulte Waregem for 2012-13, playing in over 50 matches and earning Belgian Player of the Year.

Loaned to Borussia Monchengladbach in the following season, Hazard was again a regular at the club. His performances impressed sufficiently for the Bundesliga news giants to make his move permanent midway through the campaign.

He made his Champions League debut during his time with Gladbach and was a first-choice starter for the majority of his five seasons with the club.

A period following Lucien Favre’s sacking was a brief blip for Hazard, though he soon returned to the team and established himself as a consistent performer.

At one stage, his form was strong enough to lead to links with a transfer back to Chelsea. Such move never materialised.

By the summer window of 2019, Hazard was on the move again. Borussia Dortmund stumped up €25.5 million for the Belgian’s services.

The move went somewhat under the radar amid the arrivals of Erling Haaland, Julian Brandt, Nico Schulz, Achraf Hakimi, Emre Can and Mats Hummels. Only Hakimi and Jadon Sancho made more appearances for the club in 2019-20, however.

The 2020-21 season was quieter for Hazard. He played in just 28 matches, scoring four times, as he once again waved goodbye to Favre, who was sacked in December.

FIFA 22

Thorgan Hazard features in FIFA 22. He’s rated at 82 in Ultimate Team with a gold rare card. With just 80 pace, the Belgian hasn’t proved to be a popular card in what is his 10th year in the EA Sports game.

Thorgan Hazard

Thorgan Hazard FIFA 22 might be uninspiring, but the FIFA 21 options were a lot more fun. He had a couple of promo cards, including a central Festival of Football Path To Glory card, rated at 93 with 95 pace. This tormented plenty of defences.

Thorgan Hazard FIFA 21 also had an 86-rated striker card in the popular FUT Freeze promo. Nimble in-game, and with great finishing attributes, Hazard was a difficult player to contain in FIFA 21.

Thorgan Hazard Family Links

Thorgan Hazard’s parents, Carine and Thierry, were both footballers from Belgium. This is a family with a rich football heritage, which has been continued by Thorgan and his three brothers.

His older brother, Eden, made his name with Lille and then starred for Chelsea in the Premier League, winning multiple titles and individual honours along the way. The two have often played together for Belgium.

Thorgan has two younger brothers: Kylian and Ethan. Kylian joined Chelsea’s academy back in 2017 but joined Cercle Brugge on a permanent basis in 2019. Ethan has followed in his siblings’ footsteps, and he’s currently in the academy of Tubize.

Thorgan and Hazard rank among the most famous brothers in modern football history alongside the Alcantaras, Benders, Boatengs, de Boers and Cannavaros.
