Roma 1 – Venezia 1: Victory elusive at the Stadio Olympico for both sides

Roma were held to 1-1 draw by Venezia down on Saturday at the Stadio Olympico. Roma arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 2-0 to Fiorentina. Venezia, on the other hand, were coming from a 4-3 win against Bologna. After today’s result, Roma and Venezia sit 6th, (60 points) and 20th, (26 points), in the league respectively, after 37 matches.

Venezia started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early goal from David Okereke in the 1st minute, to take a 0-1 lead into half time.

Giallorossi took the lead in the second half, thanks to Eldor Shomurodov finding the net, at 76 minutes. The final result, Roma 1, Venezia 1.

For Roma, Rick Karsdorp, Nicola Zalewski, Stephan El Shaarawy, Eldor Shomurodov and Cristian Volpato, came on for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Leonardo Spinazzola, Marash Kumbulla, Jordan Veretout and Carles Perez. Venezia brought on Luca Fiordilino, Dor Peretz, Michael Svoboda, Dennis Johnsen and Tyronne Ebuehi, to replace Antonio Vacca, Mattia Aramu, Ales Mateju, David Okereke and Domen Crnigoj.

The referee booked Leonardo Spinazzola and Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma. Venezia had the worst of it though, with Sofian Kiyine, Antonio Vacca, David Okereke, Ethan Ampadu and Dor Peretz seeing yellow, and Sofian Kiyine then sent off with a red.

Roma will next travel to Torino, while Venezia will face Cagliari at home.
