Verona 2-5 Napoli: Gli Azzurri put five past Verona in big opening victory

Napoli cruise past Hellas Verona 5-2 on Monday at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi. Today’s result, Verona are in 20th place, with 0 points from 1 match, while Napoli sit in 1st, with 3 points from 1.

Verona dominated the first half, when Kevin Lasagna found the net, at 29 minutes. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the 37 minute mark, brought Napoli level. However they weren’t finished yet and Victor Osimhen made it 2-1 just before halftime, ending the first half 2-1.

The Yellow and Blues staged a comeback in the second half, with an early goal from Thomas Henry in the 48th minute. However, each side looked hungry to win and Gli Azzurri then found the back of the net, 55 minutes in thanks to Piotr Zielinski, taking the score to 3-2. Gli Azzurri looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Stanislav Lobotka at the 65 minute mark to establish a 4-2. Napoli then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Matteo Politano at the 79 minute mark with a final score of 5-2.

Substitutions for Verona included Panagiotis Retsos, Roberto Piccoli, Antonin Barak and Milan Djuric for Bruno Amione, Thomas Henry, Adrien Tameze and Kevin Lasagna, repectively. Napoli brought on Eljif Elmas, Alessio Zerbin, Matteo Politano, Mathias Olivera and Adam Ounas, to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Piotr Zielinski, Hirving Lozano, Mario Rui and Victor Osimhen.

There were bookings for Martin Hongla and Bruno Amione from Verona, and Victor Osimhen and Min-jae Kim, for Napoli.

In the second round of action in the Serie A Verona will travel to play Bologna and Napoli will play AC Monza at home.
