Spurs 1-2 Newcastle: Magpies into the Champions League spots

Newcastle United eased past Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-1 victory on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs were looking forward to playing again after losing their last match 2-0 to Manchester United. Newcastle, meanwhile, were looking to extend their winning run after a 1-0 victory against Everton. Spurs and Newcastle currently occupy 3rd and 4th spots in the table, with 23 points and 21 points respectively after 13 matches.

Newcastle dominated the first half, when Callum Wilson gave them the lead, at 31 minutes. The Magpies then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Miguel Almiron just before half-time, to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

Spurs started the second half with an intensified spirit, when Harry Kane found the net, at 54 minutes. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Spurs included Ivan Perisic, Lucas Moura, Ben Davies and Matt Doherty for Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp, Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez, respectively. Newcastle brought on Jacob Murphy, Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey, to replace Joseph Willock, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes.

There were bookings for Rodrigo Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Emerson from Spurs. For Newcastle, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope saw yellow.

Spurs will next play Bournemouth away, with Newcastle facing Aston Villa at home.
