Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Real Salt Lake: The Village take all 3 points with stoppage-time winner
Vancouver Whitecaps defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 on Sunday at BC Place Stadium. Following today’s result, Caps and RSL currently occupy 10th and 3rd spots in the league, with 17 points and 25 points respectively after 20 matches.
The Village scored first, when Veselinovic gave Caps the lead, at 31 minutes. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.
RSL started the second half with renewed vigour, when Meram found the net in the 52nd minute. In the end though, Caps just before the final whistle took the victory via a Gauld goal, leaving the final score at 2-1.
Substitutions for Caps included Gauld, Martins, Godinho, Ricketts and Caio Alexandre for Berhalter, Gutiérrez, Raposo, Caicedo and Owusu, repectively. RSL replaced Savarino, Julio and Luna with Chang, Meram and Córdova.
The referee booked Caicedo, Jungwirth and Caio Alexandre from Caps. RSL had the worst of it though, with Herrera, Meram and Löffelsend seeing yellow, and Herrera (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.
