Real Salt Lake 2-0 San Jose: Claret and Cobalt blank the Quakes in comfortable home win

Real Salt Lake’s 2-0 win over San Jose on Sunday, was hard fought at Rio Tinto Stadium. As the table looks today, RSL and San Jose currently occupy 2nd and 13th spots in the league, with 28 points and 15 points respectively after 22 matches.

RSL started the first half well, with a goal from Marcelo Silva at the 22 minute mark, finishing the first half 1-0.

Claret and Cobalt continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Savarino found the net, at 81 minutes, leaving the final score at 2-0.

Substitutions for RSL included Méndez, Nick Besler, Everton, Chang and Julio for Wood, Löffelsend, Caldwell, Savarino and Córdova, repectively. San Jose brought on Gregus, Salinas and Bouda, to replace Judson, Ebobisse and Marie.

There were bookings for Schmitt and Everton from RSL, and Espinoza and Nathan Pelae, for San Jose.

San Jose and RSL will next play at home to LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew respectively.
