Sunday Ligue 1 action from the Orange Velodrome, as Marseille take on Lyon.

Sunday’s clash between Marseille and Lyon, sees fifth take on eighth in the League.

Olympique de Marseille’s campaign so far has seen them accrue 24 points this season

Marseille’s pride is now at stake, as they will not wish for another successive poor result. They recently drew 2-2 away to RC Strasburg, which followed the loss to RC Lens. They will be eager to improve in this next fixture.

Also, Marseille keep finding ways to win, having secured seven victories in their last 13 matches is astonishing this season. With 24 points (7W, 3L and 3D), they are established in fifth position in the League having won seven games, drawn three meetings, and lost three fixtures.

Playing at home, Marseille have won four games, drawn one game, and lost two matches.

A victory for Olympique de Marseille would put them on 27 points.

Good atacking and defensive team

So far, Marseille’s defence has been outstanding, as they have conceded 11 goals. Marseille have a good scoring record this season, with 22 netted so far (21 from open play and one penalty). Their stand out attacking players have been Alexis Sanchez (4), Luis Suarez (3), and Nuno Tavares (3).

Marseille’s squad has depth, but even so, Igor Tudor is likely to be missing one of they key players when they start Sunday’s game.

With the Ligue 1 season well into its stride, Lyon have managed to gain 20 points

Lyon will take a huge positive from their recent 1-0 win against Lille at Groupama Stadium.

Also, Laurent Blanc knows that a run of five losses in eight fixtures for his Lyon side, is going to be a tough run of form to change. However that is exactly what he must try to deliver. With an eighth position in the league and 6 wins, 5 losses and 2 draws, they currently have 20 points in the League having won six meetings, drawn two matches, and lost five matches.

It must be a worrying prospect for Lyon to go back on the road, with a bud run of away performances under their belt this season. So far they have only secured one victory, one draw, and four defeat to the home team.

A win in this fixture would take Lyon’s points to 23 in the League.

Good Attacking Performance

This has been a good season so far for Lyon, in terms of goals scored (22). This has been largely down to the key attacking players: Alexandre Lacazette (8), Tete (5), and Karl Toko Ekambi (4). Lyon have conceded 16 goals.

Lyon are no strangers this season to illness and injury and Laurent Blanc is concerned that Sunday’s fixture could see him without one of his key players

Olympique de Marseille v Lyon – Head-to-Head.

Regarding their historical duels the recent form between these two sides has seen Lyon with a greater number of wins. In the last 60 meetings, they have enjoyed 27 victories, to Marseille’s 13 victories. Further, the last 17 games against Lyon have resulted in nine wins for Marseille. In their most recent meeting of this fixture was May 2022 and the score line ended up with a 0-3 away win for The Kids.
