Wycombe have lost a major tournament final and will be feeling really sore at this. What could have been will keep them awake for many nights. They have done well to reach this point in the competition, but that will be little consolation for them. Both Sunderland AFC and Wycombe arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Sunderland AFC were looking to continue their run, following a 1-0 victory against Morecambe FC whilst Wycombe were coming from consecutive wins against Burton Albion and Sheffield Wednesday. For Sunderland AFC however, this was very much job done. They are Champions of the League One and there will be no-one that could ever doubt their true pedigree. They march on and will come again next time as Champions.

It was an impressive opening from Sunderland AFC, with a goal from Elliot Embleton at the 12 minute mark and the first half ended 1-0.

Sunderland AFC continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Ross Stewart finding the net at the 79 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-0.

Both managers used allfull available substitutions. For Sunderland AFC, Jack Clarke, Callum Doyle and Nathan Broadhead, came on for Elliot Embleton, Alex Pritchard and Ross Stewart, Wycombe brought on Lewis Wing, Brandon Hanlan and Adebayo Akinfenwa, to replace Daryl Horgan, Jordan Obita and Dominic Gape.

The referee booked Dennis Cirkin and Alex Pritchard for Sunderland AFC.

Plenty of goals and a thrilling spectacle of football, what more can we ask from a League One Final. We look forward to the next campaign, when Sunderland AFC will be reigning Champions.
