Portsmouth 4-1 Cambridge: Pompey fire four past Cambridge at Fratton Park

Portsmouth FC beat Cambridge Utd with a thumping 4-1 victory on Tuesday at Fratton Park. Both Portsmouth FC and Cambridge arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Portsmouth FC were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Cambridge had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 2-1 victory against Exeter City. Following today’s result, Portsmouth FC and Cambridge currently occupy 3rd and 13th spots in the league, with 8 points and 6 points respectively after 4 matches.

Cambridge started strongly in the first half, when Joe Ironside gave Cambridge the lead, 30 minutes in. However, Portsmouth FC secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Sean Raggett just before halftime to see out the first half 1-1.

Portsmouth FC continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Ronan Curtis at the 60 minute mark. The momentum was now with Portsmouth FC, who then scored again through a goal from Michael Jacobs, 70 minutes in to establish a 3-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Connor Ogilvie in the 77th minute to make it 4-1.

Substitutions for Portsmouth FC included Louis Thompson, Michael Jacobs, Recco Hackett-Fairchild, Joe Pigott and Jay Mingi for Tom Lowery, Dane Scarlett, Owen Dale, Colby Bishop and Marlon Pack, repectively. Cambridge brought on James Brophy, Adam May, Harrison Dunk, Saikou Janneh and Jack Lankester, to replace Harvey Knibbs, Liam O’Neil, Brandon Haunstrup, Shilow Tracey and Joe Ironside.

The referee booked Liam O’Neil, Lloyd Jones and Jubril Okedina for Cambridge.

Portsmouth FC will next play Bristol Rovers at home, with Cambridge facing Charlton Athletic away.
