Cambridge 2-1 Exeter: The U’s do enough at Abbey Stadium

Cambridge Utd defeated Exeter City 2-1 on Saturday at Abbey Stadium. Cambridge were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Oxford United. Exeter were able to continue their winning streak after a 4-0 win against Port Vale in their last match. As the table looks today, Cambridge are in 6th place, with 6 points from 3 matches, while Exeter sit in 11th, with 4 points from 3.

Exeter started the match well, with a goal from Jevani Brown, 39 minutes in, concluding the first half 1-0.

Cambridge continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Sam Smith, 60 minutes in. Cambridge then netted once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Paul Digby just before the final whistle to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Cambridge included Brandon Haunstrup, Shilow Tracey, Jack Lankester and Liam O’Neil for Harrison Dunk, James Brophy, Harvey Knibbs and Sam Smith, repectively. Exeter brought on Matt Jay, Josh Coley, Jake Caprice and Jonathan Grounds, to replace Josh Key, Harry Kite, Pierce Sweeney and Timothee Dieng.

There were bookings for Paul Digby, Harrison Dunk and Jack Lankester from Cambridge, and Pierce Sweeney and Josh Coley, for Exeter.

Cambridge will next play Portsmouth FC away, with Exeter facing Wycombe Wanderers at home.
