Real Sociedad 1-2 Atletico Madrid: Los Colchoneros win to secure third place finish in La Liga

Atletico Madrid defeat Real Sociedad 2-1 on Sunday at the Reale Arena. Real had been hopeful of continuing their run after winning their previous two matches against Villarreal away and Cádiz at home, by 2-1 and 3-0 respectively. Atleti, on the other hand, are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. This left, Real and Atleti sit 6th (62 points) and 3rd (71 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

After an un-eventful first half, Whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Los Colchoneros who started the second half well, thanks to an early goal from Rodrigo De Paul in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with Atleti, who then scored again through a goal from Angel Correa, at 69 minutes to establish a 2-0. In the end though, Real pull-back just before the final whistle, with a goal from Jon Guridi and seeing the game end 2-1.

For Real, Portu, Adnan Januzaj, Nais Djouahra, Joseba Zaldua and Jon Guridi, came on for Rafinha, Alexander Isak, Alexander Sorloth, Andoni Gorosabel and Illarramendi. Atleti brought on Angel Correa, Thomas Lemar and Luis Suarez, to replace Matheus Cunha, Rodrigo De Paul and Antoine Griezmann.

There were bookings for Robin Le Normand, Rafinha, Mikel Merino and Portu from Real. For Atleti, Antoine Griezmann and Stefan Savic saw yellow.
