Rayo Vallecano 3-2 Real Madrid: Los Blancos suffer shock road defeat

Rayo Vallecano beated R Madrid 3-2 on Monday at Estadio de Vallecas. Rayo were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Seville away (1-0), the other to Cádiz at home (5-1) while RMA had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Girona. Rayo are now in 8th place, with 21 points from 13 matches, while RMA sit in 2nd, with 32 points from 13.

vallecano started the first half well, with an early goal from Santi Comesana in the 5th minute. However, they didn’t maintain the lead for long though, an equalizer from Luka Modric, at 37 minutes, brought RMA level. The momentum was again with Los Blancos, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Eder Militao on the 41 minute mark to establish a 2-1 result. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Alvaro Garcia equalised for Rayo just before half-time, to take a 2-2 lead into half time.

Rayo continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, with a goal from Oscar Trejo, at 67 minutes. The match ended with a 3-2 home victory.

Substitutions for Rayo included Unai Lopez, Pathe Ciss, Pep Chavarria, Falcao and Salvi Sanchez for Oscar Trejo, Santi Comesana, Isi Palazon, Sergio Camello and Alvaro Garcia, respectively. RMA brought on Eduardo Camavinga, Mariano Diaz, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho, to replace Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy.

There were bookings for Alejandro Catena, Oscar Trejo, Ivan Balliu and Pep Chavarria from Rayo. For RMA, Vinicius Junior, Luka Modric, Dani Carvajal, Rodrygo and Lucas Vazquez saw yellow.

Rayo next face Celta Vigo while RMA are at home to Cádiz.
