Real Madrid 1-1 Girona: Los Blancos frustrated by Girona
On Sunday, RMA and Girona played out a 1-1 draw at Santiago Bernabeu. RMA were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Seville at home (3-1), the other to Elche away (3-0). Girona were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. RMA and Girona are 2nd, (31 points) and 19th, (9 points), spots respectively, after 12 matches.
After a goalless first half, Los Blancos fought back the second half, with a goal from Vinicius Junior in the 70th minute. In the end though, their lead was short-lived, as Cristhian Stuani equalised for Girona, 80 minutes in. The final result, RMA 1, Girona 1.
Substitutions for RMA included Marco Asensio, Eder Militao and Mariano Diaz for Eduardo Camavinga, Ferland Mendy and Federico Valverde, respectively. Girona brought on Rodrigo Riquelme, Javier Hernandez, Reinier, Toni Villa and Cristhian Stuani for Yan Couto, Miguel Gutierrez, Yangel Herrera, Valery Fernandez and Valentin Castellanos.
The referee booked Toni Kroos and Luka Modric from RMA and Toni Kroos (2 yellow cards) went off with a red card, while Girona’s David Lopez, Paulo Gazzaniga and Martinez Arnau also received a yellow.
RMA will next play Rayo Vallecano away, with Girona facing Athletic Bilbao at home.
