Rayo Vallecano’s 1-0 win over Espanyol on Thursday, was hard fought at Rcde Stadium. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Espanyol were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-1 to Atletico Madrid. Rayo lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Alaves. As it stands, Espanyol and Rayo currently occupy 12th and 14th spots in the table, with 39 points and 37 points respectively after 33 matches.

Rayo started the game well, thanks to Sergi Guardiola giving vallecano the lead just before half-time, seeing out the first half 0-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-0.

For Espanyol, Adri Embarba, Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo, Loren Moron, Manu Morlanes and Wu Lei, came on for Keidi Bare, Tonny Vilhena, Javi Puado, Yangel Herrera and Aleix Vidal. Rayo replaced Pathe Ciss, Unai Lopez, Mario Suarez and Randy Nteka with Oscar Trejo, Santi Comesana, Óscar Valentín and Sergi Guardiola.

There were bookings for Adri Embarba, Aleix Vidal, Leandro Cabrera and Fernando Calero from Espanyol, and Oscar Trejo, Mario Hernandez, Santi Comesana and Francisco Garcia, for Rayo.
