Birmingham 1-2 Sunderland: Black Cats hang on for good win at St Andrews
Sunderland AFC eased past Birmingham City in a 2-1 victory on Friday at St Andrew’s Stadium. Birmingham were looking to continue their good run after winning last match. Sunderland AFC had lost their previous match against Cardiff City. Birmingham are currently 10th with 28 points from 21 matches, while Sunderland AFC sit in 12th, with 27 points from 21.
It was an impressive opening from Sunderland AFC, when Ellis Reco Simms gave them the lead in the 25th minute to take them into the break 1-0 up.
Sunderland AFC staged a comeback in the second half, with an early goal from Amad Traore in the 49th minute. Blues in turn, then responded in the 78th minute, grabbing the lead with an effort from Lukas Jutkiewicz so at full time it was 2-1 to Sunderland AFC.
Substitutions for Birmingham included Tahith Chong, Lukas Jutkiewicz, George Hall and Jordan James for Hannibal Mejbri, Maxime Colin, Jobe Bellingham and Krystian Bielik, respectively. Sunderland AFC brought on Patrick Roberts, Elliot Embleton and Jay Matete, to replace Amad Traore, Ellis Reco Simms and Alex Pritchard.
