Union Berlin 1 – Sporting Braga 0: Narrow home win for The Iron Ones at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium

Union Berlin strolled past Sporting Braga with a 1-0 win on Thursday at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium. Union Berlin were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Malmö at home (1-0), the other to Malmö away (1-0). Sporting Braga had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Union Saint-Gilloise. Union Berlin are now in 2nd place on the table and have 9 points while Sporting Braga sit in 3rd with 7 points after 5 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Union Berlin applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Robin Knoche gave them the lead in the 68th minute, seing the match finish 1-0.

Substitutions for Union Berlin included Andras Schafer, Kevin Behrens, Jamie Leweling and Genki Haraguchi for Morten Thorsby, Jordan Siebatcheu, Sheraldo Becker and Janik Haberer, respectively. Sporting Braga brought on Rodrigo Gomes, Andre Horta, Simon Banza and Alvaro Djalo, to replace Iuri Medeiros, Andre Castro, Fabiano and Nuno Sequeira.

There were bookings for Morten Thorsby and Julian Ryerson from Union Berlin. For Sporting Braga, Fabiano, Abel Ruiz and Andre Castro saw yellow.

Union Berlin will next play Union Saint-Gilloise away, with Sporting Braga facing Malmö at home.
