Wigan Athletic beat Blackpool with a 2-1 victory on Saturday at Dw Stadium. Wigan Athletic arrived with the intention of improving their league position following a disappointing 2-2 draw with Swansea City in their previous game. Blackpool had lost their previous match against Luton Town. Wigan Athletic are now in 22nd place on the table and have 23 points while Blackpool sit in 23rd with 22 points after 21 matches.

Blackpool started strongly in the first half, when Gary Madine gave them the lead on the 34 minute mark and managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Wigan Athletic started the second half with renewed vigour, with a goal from James McClean in the 54th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Curtis Tilt made it 2-1 just before the final whistle to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Wigan Athletic included Joe Bennett, Josh Magennis and Ashley Fletcher for Jack Whatmough, Charlie Wyke and Callum Lang, respectively. Blackpool brought on CJ Hamilton, to replace Charlie Patino.

The referee booked Callum Lang, Joe Bennett and Graeme Shinnie from Wigan Athletic. Blackpool had the worst of it though, with Sonny Carey and Dominic Thompson seeing yellow, and Marvin Ekpiteta then sent off with a red.
