Watford 0-1 Coventry: Gyokeres earns the Sky Blues victory at Vicarage Road
Watford were defeated at home by Coventry City at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Both Watford and Coventry arrived at the challenge after previous wins. Watford had been hopeful of continuing their good run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Cardiff City away (2-1), the other to Wigan Athletic away (1-0). Coventry were coming off the back of a 1-0 win against Blackburn Rovers. Watford and Coventry sit 7th, (29 points) and 15th, (23 points), in the league respectively, after 20 matches.
After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Coventry who started the second half strongly, with an early goal from Viktor Gyokeres in the 50th minute, leaving the final score at 1-0.
Substitutions for Watford included Mario Gaspar, Yaser Asprilla, Vakoun Issouf Bayo and Joseph Hungbo for Dan Gosling, Joao Pedro, Ken Sema and Keinan Davis, respectively. Coventry brought on Callum O`Hare, Jake Bidwell, Tyler Walker and Todd Kane, to replace Kasey Palmer, Josh Eccles, Jamie Allen and Jack Burroughs.
There were bookings for Francisco Sierralta, Hamza Choudhury, Hassane Kamara and Daniel Bachmann from Watford, and Josh Eccles and Ben Wilson, for Coventry.
Watford will play away against Bristol City, while Coventry will face Queens Park Rangers at home.
