Swansea 2-1 Sunderland: Black Cats fall short at the Liberty

Swansea City eased past Sunderland AFC in a 2-1 victory on Saturday at Liberty Stadium. Swansea were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the competition. The most recent was against the Watford away (2-1), the other to West Bromwich Albion away (3-2). Sunderland AFC had secured a point against Blackpool in their previous match. Swansea are now in 6th place on the table and have 21 points while Sunderland AFC sit in 10th with 17 points after 14 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Swans, thanks to a goal from Oliver Cooper, at 14 minutes. Swansea then netted again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Harry Darling just before half-time to see out the first half 2-0.

Sunderland AFC staged a comeback in the second half, with a goal from Jack Clarke on the 51 minute mark. When the final whistle blew, the result was 2-1 to Swansea.

Substitutions for Swansea included Michael Obafemi, Olivier Ntcham, Matthew Sorinola and Armstrong Oko-Flex for Luke Cundle, Oliver Cooper, Nathan Wood-Gordon and Joel Piroe, respectively. Sunderland AFC brought on Jewison Bennette, Abdoullah Ba, Jay Matete and Amad Traore, to replace Patrick Roberts, Dan Neill, Elliot Embleton and Alex Pritchard.

There were bookings for Jay Fulton and Joel Latibeaudiere from Swansea, and Dan Neill, Corry Evans, Elliot Embleton, Lynden Gooch and Jack Clarke, for Sunderland AFC.

Swansea will next travel to Burnley, while Sunderland AFC will face Wigan Athletic at home.
