Sunderland 0-1 Cardiff: The Bluebirds pull off an upset at the Stadium of Light

Cardiff City enjoyed an away victory against Sunderland AFC at Stadium of Light on Saturday. Sunderland AFC were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning last match whilst Cardiff had lost their previous match against Watford. both teams are now on 24 points and sit in 13th and 14th places respectively after 20 matches.

After an uneventful first half, Cardiff certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, with an early goal from Mark Thomas Harris in the 49th minute. They managed to close the match out with a clean sheet and a well-earned of 1-0 victory.

Substitutions for Sunderland AFC included Alex Pritchard, Corry Evans, Jewison Bennette and Elliot Embleton for Dan Neill, Abdoullah Ba, Patrick Roberts and Ellis Reco Simms, respectively. Cardiff brought on Romaine Sawyers, Max Watters, Curtis Nelson, Andy Rinomhota and Gavin Whyte, to replace Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Mark Thomas Harris, Sheyi Ojo, Callum O’Dowda and Max Watters.

There were bookings for Dan Neill from Sunderland AFC. For Cardiff, Ryan Wintle and Niels Nkounkou saw yellow.

Sunderland AFC will play away against Birmingham City, while Cardiff will face Sheffield United at home.
