Burnley 2-1 Bristol City: Rodriguez nets winner for the Clarets
Burnley banked all three points against the Bristol City in a 2-1 victory on Saturday, at Turf Moor. Burnley were on the hunt for more points after a 1-1 draw against Preston North End. Bristol were beaten 3-2 in their previous match against Norwich City. Both teams are now on 14 points and occupy 7th and 8th places respectively after 11 matches.
Burnley started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early goal from Manuel Benson in the 4th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Nahki Wells equalised for Bristol in the 27th minute, concluding the first half 1-1.
The Clarets once more applied the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Jay Rodriguez in the 67th minute. When the final whistle blew, the result was 2-1 to Burnley.
Substitutions for Burnley included Johann Gudmundsson, Anass Zaroury, Vitinho and Halil Dervisoglu for Manuel Benson, Nathan Tella, Ian Maatsen and Jay Rodriguez, respectively. Bristol replaced Alex Scott, Tommy Conway, Matty James and Robert Atkinson for Joe Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Han-Noah Massengo and Chris Martin.
