Blackburn 2-0 Sunderland: Rovers celebrate win at Ewood Park and go top

Blackburn Rovers’ 2-0 win over Sunderland AFC on Tuesday, was hard fought at Ewood Park. Both teams arrived on the back of wins. Blackburn were looking to continue their good run after winning last match. Sunderland AFC, meanwhile, were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against Wigan Athletic. Blackburn are now in 1st place, with 27 points from 16 matches, while Sunderland AFC sit in 12th, with 20 points from 16.

Rovers started the first half well, when Ben Brereton found the net, at 32 minutes to see them go in at half time 1-0 up.

Blackburn started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from Scott Wharton in the 49th minute. The match ended with a 2-0 win for Blackburn.

Substitutions for Blackburn included Tyrhys Dolan and Jack Vale for Sammie Szmodics and Sam Gallagher, respectively. Sunderland AFC replaced Elliot Embleton, Alex Pritchard, Dan Neill, Aji Alese and Corry Evans for Abdoullah Ba, Jewison Bennette, Amad Traore, Trai Hume and Edouard Michut.

There were bookings for Tyler Morton, Sammie Szmodics and Hayden Carter from Blackburn, and Alex Pritchard, Dennis Cirkin and Jewison Bennette, for Sunderland AFC.

Sunderland AFC and Blackburn will next play at home to Burnley and Birmingham City respectively.
