Blackburn Rovers strolled past Birmingham City with a 2-1 win on Saturday at Ewood Park. Blackburn were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches against Sunderland AFC at home and Middlesbrough away, by 2-0 and 2-1 respectively. Birmingham, meanwhile, were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Blackburn and Birmingham currently occupy 2nd and 14th spots in the league, with 30 points and 20 points respectively after 17 matches.

Blackburn started the first half well, when Sam Gallagher gave them the lead in the 17th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Adam Wharton made it 2-0 just before half-time to secure a 2-0 win.

Birmingham took the lead in the second half, when Scott Hogan found the net, 80 minutes in. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Blackburn.

Substitutions for Blackburn included Jake Garrett, Ashley Phillips, Jack Vale and Tyrhys Dolan for Adam Wharton, Ryan Hedges, Ben Brereton and Sam Gallagher, respectively. Birmingham brought on Hannibal Mejbri, Jordan Graham, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Troy Deeney and Jobe Bellingham for Krystian Bielik, Maxime Colin, Harlee Dean, George Hall and Tahith Chong.

There were bookings for Jack Vale from Blackburn. For Birmingham, Dion Sanderson saw yellow.

Blackburn will next play Hull City away, with Birmingham facing Queens Park Rangers at home.
