Villarreal won at home 1-0 against Bayern in the first match of the qualifier held this Wednesday at the Estadio de la Ceramica. During the previous stage of the European Championship Villarreal eliminated Juventus while, for their part, Bayern were able to eliminate FC Salzburg. When these two meet again for the return fixture, they will both be keen to secure the win and go foward.

The Yellow Submarine started the first half well, thanks to a goal from Arnaut Danjuma, at 8 minutes. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 1-0.

For Villarreal, Alfonso Pedraza, Samuel Chukwueze and Serge Aurier, came on for Francis Coquelin, Arnaut Danjuma and Juan Foyth. Bayern brought on Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane, Niklas Sule and Marc Roca, to replace Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, Benjamin Pavard and Leon Goretzka.

The referee booked Pervis Estupinan for Villarreal.

This will be a very well received result for, on the back of a dismal draw in the first leg. It sets the stage for them well as they now move forward to the next stage of the Champions League.
