R Madrid 2 – Chelsea 3: Home return victory made even more sweet with qualification for next round, as R Madrid beat Chelsea

RMA managed to qualify for the next round of the Champions League in a knockout where extra time was required to decide the winner. The meeting ended this Tuesday with a result of 3-2. After the120 minutes of play, the final result was 3-2 to RMA, and with the first match ending with a 3-1 victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, they go through convincingly. With this result, RMA manage to secure their place in the Champions League for at least one more round, as they await their new rivals.

It was an impressive opening from Chelsea, with a goal from Mason Mount, 15 minutes in, finishing the first half 0-1.

The Blues started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, thanks to Antonio Rudiger finding the net at the 51 minute mark. Chelsea looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Timo Werner at the 75 minute mark to establish a 3-0. In the end though, Los Blancos pull-back, at 80 minutes, with a goal from Rodrygo and seeing the game end 3-1.

Although the game concluded 3-1 extra time was necessary, since both teams were tied. Fortunately in the the first half of extra time RMA, with Karim Benzema finding the net, at 96 minutes, finalising the first half of extra time 3-2.

Finally, the result didn’t change so the match finalised 3-2.

For RMA, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo, Marcelo, Lucas Vazquez and Dani Ceballos, came on for Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Ferland Mendy, Nacho and Vinicius Junior. Chelsea brought on Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Saul Niguez and Jorginho, to replace Timo Werner, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic.

There were bookings for Karim Benzema, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Carvajal from RMA. For Chelsea, Reece James, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Cesar Azpilicueta saw yellow.

Los Blancos will be pleased to advance to the next stage of the tournament, but it was a nervous second leg that ultimately came down to goal difference. They will take confidence from the two leg result, but know that tough opposition lies ahead.
