Man City won at home 1-0 against Atleti in the first match of the qualifier held this Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium. During the previous stage of the European Championship Man City eliminated Sporting CP; the away team, for their part, managed to beat Manchester United. This result leaves The Skyblues with work to do for the return fixture. It’s all to play for as both sides still hope to advance to the next stage of the European Competition.

Following a goalless first half, Cityzens applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Kevin De Bruyne finding the net, at 70 minutes, leaving the final score at 1-0.

For Man City, Gabriel Jesus, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden, came on for Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez. Atleti brought on Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Correa, Matheus Cunha and Thomas Lemar, to replace Koke, Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente and Joao Felix.

There were bookings for Gabriel Jesus and Ederson from Man City. For Atleti, Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko saw yellow.

This will be a very well received result for, on the back of a dismal draw in the first leg. It sets the stage for them well as they now move forward to the next stage of the Champions League.
