After the return match in the quarterfinals that took place at Anfield, Liverpool move to the next phase of the Champions League after tying three with Benfica. When the two sides previously met at Lisbon, the score ended 1-3. With this result, we will continue to see Liverpool, for at least one more round in the Champions League.

It was an impressive opening from Liverpool, thanks to a goal from Ibrahima Konate at the 21 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Goncalo Ramos equalised for Benfica, 32 minutes in. The first half ended 1-1.

Liverpool started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with Roberto Firmino finding the net in the 55th minute. The Reds looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a second effort from Roberto Firmino, 65 minutes in to establish a 3-1. However, Benfica weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Roman Yaremchuk at the 73 minute mark. Benfica then netted again and found an equaliser thanks to a goal from Darwin Nunez, at 82 minutes with a final score of 3-3.

For Liverpool, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Thiago, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi, came on for Diogo Jota, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino. Benfica brought on Roman Yaremchuk, Joao Mario, Paulo Bernardo, Gil Dias and Andre Almeida, to replace Diogo Goncalves, Adel Taarabt, Goncalo Ramos, Gilberto and Everton.

This victory will please Liverpool to maintain this winning form as they advance in the competition, whilst Benfica must now wait another season to try again.
