Juventus 1-2 Benfica: The Old Lady suffer second group stage defeat

Juve on Wednesday lost to Benfica on a home defeat at Allianz Stadium. Juve arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in their previous fixture. Benfica, meanwhile, were coming from a 2-0 win against Maccabi Haifa FC. Juve are now in 3rd place, with 0 points from 2 matches, while Benfica sit in 1st, with 6 points from 2.

The Old Lady found the net first, with an early goal from Arkadiusz Milik in the 4th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Joao Mario equalised for Benfica just before half-time to see out the first half 1-1.

Benfica staged a comeback in the second half, with a goal from David Neres, at 55 minutes. When the final whistle blew, the result was 2-1 to Benfica.

Substitutions for Juve included Angel Di Maria, Mattia De Sciglio, Moise Kean and Nicolo Fagioli for Fabio Miretti, Juan Cuadrado, Filip Kostic and Arkadiusz Milik, respectively. Benfica replaced Fredrik Aursnes, Chiquinho, Petar Musa, Diogo Goncalves and Julian Draxler with Enzo Fernandez, David Neres, Goncalo Ramos, Rafa Silva and Joao Mario.

There were bookings for Fabio Miretti, Mattia Perin, Danilo and Leandro Paredes from Juve, and Alexander Bah, Joao Mario and Florentino Luis, for Benfica.

Benfica and Juve will next play at home to Paris Saint-Germain and Maccabi Haifa FC respectively.
