Home return offers no advantage, as Bayern Munich & Villarreal draw and visitors advance to next stage on goal difference

Bayern and Villarreal ended their confrontation in the with a 1-1 draw this Tuesday at the Allianz Arena. When the two sides previously met at Villarreal, the score ended 1-0. With this result, we will continue to see Villarreal for at least one more round in the Champions League.

After a goalless first half, Whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Bayern who started the second half well, thanks to Robert Lewandowski finding the net, at 52 minutes. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Samuel Chukwueze equalised for Villarreal just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 1-1.

Bayern brought on Serge Gnabry, Alphonso Davies and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for Jamal Musiala, Lucas Hernandez and Thomas Muller. Villarreal brought on Samuel Chukwueze, Alfonso Pedraza and Serge Aurier, to replace Francis Coquelin, Arnaut Danjuma and Dani Parejo.

There were bookings for Robert Lewandowski from Bayern. For Villarreal, Juan Foyth and Giovani Lo Celso saw yellow.

The Yellow Submarine now march on to the next stage, having dispatched their opponents in the last. This was a result that will give them renewed confidence going forward.
