Sheffield U 1 – Forest 2: The Blades stunned by visitors at Bramall Lane in Championship Semi Final – first leg

This result will feel like a low blow for The Blades, losing at home and conceding an away goal ahead of the 2nd leg. However the margin is slight and there is everything to play for. That said, Steve Cooper’s men will be jubilant to have secured both the win and the away goal. An advantage may be slight, but they have it going into a home match, so the odds do sit in their favour.

Red dogs started the game well, with Jack Colback finding the net at the 10 minute mark, finalising the first half 0-1.

Forest continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Brennan Johnson finding the net, 71 minutes in. Sheffield U in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Sander Berge and seeing the game end 2-1.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Sheffield U, George Baldock, Daniel Jebbison and Rhys Norrington-Davies, came on for Oliver Norwood, Ben Osborn and Enda Stevens, Forest brought on Joe Lolley, Keinan Davis and Alexander Mighten to replace Philip Zinckernagel, Sam Surridge and Brennan Johnson.

There were bookings for John Fleck, Jack Robinson, Oliver Norwood and George Baldock from Sheffield U, and Joe Worrall, Philip Zinckernagel and Djed Spence, for Forest.

It’s very much advantage Forest, going into the 2nd leg of this tie. However, results such as this have been turned around in the past and we will see in the next match, who progresses to the final.
